A MAN was seen walking on a major dual carriageway in Poole

Police rushed to Dorset Way eastbound, past Holes Bay roundabout, and closed the road to traffic after a man was seen walking along the 50mph road. 

Several people concerned about the man’s welfare had called 999 to report the incident at around 2.30pm on Friday, February 2, according to Poole police. 

While being detained, he is alleged to have attempted to resist and assaulted an officer.

Police say a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a highway and assaulting an emergency worker.

A spokesman for Poole police said: “These are fast roads and there was significant concern in terms of the welfare of the person involved and the wider public.  

“Deployed police officers temporarily closed the Dorset Way adjacent to the fire station, Safety Drive. This enabled Officers to safely detain the adult involved. Nobody was injured.  

“Public safety is always our highest priority during incidents of this type. 

“Poole police would like to thank the local community for their patience whilst this incident was brought to a safe conclusion. There is no wider concern for the public at this time.”
