A BUSY bridge will be closed for a month while repair work is done.

The Avon Causeway in Hurn will be completely shut from March 4 while BCP Council does important repair work.

The route which connects Hurn to Sopley will have a signed diversion for three works.

It will take road users to Fairmile Road, onto Christchurch Bypass and onto Salisbury Road which will take drivers to the other end of Avon Causeway via Ringwood Road.

The closure is to “facilitate major maintenance including waterproofing and joint replacement work to the bridge”, according to BCP Council.

The closure is expected to bring delays to the area until the project is completed on March 22.

In January, BCP Council closed Avon Causeway for safety because of flooding between Matchams Lane and Ringwood Road.

There are two bridges along the Avon Causeway, including one which goes over the A338 Spur Road and another over the River Avon.

The bridge over the River Avon was built over 18 weeks in 2006 costing £950,000 and replacing a rusty bridge.

It was built to reduce the risk of accidents and meet modern standards.
