WORLD champion boxer Chris Billam-Smith has joined forces with a food bank as an ambassador.

Bournemouth Foodbank announced the partnership with the current WBO cruiserweight as an ‘exciting development for the community’.

It said this marks a ‘significant step’ as it works to raise awareness about the broad scope of its work in the Bournemouth area.

Chris and his family visited the food bank for one of its Christmas Social Canteens at the end of last year.

They toured the food bank’s warehouse and learnt about its operations, while adding a ‘unique’ touch to the evening, speaking with guests who had come for a warm, festive meal.

This made the evening ‘even more memorable’ for everyone there.

The collaboration between Bournemouth Foodbank and Chris will bring ‘much-needed attention to the food bank’ as well as ‘critical programs beyond the provision of food’.

Chris said: “As long-time residents and lovers of Bournemouth, I’m honoured to support Bournemouth Foodbank.

“We believe in the power of community and are eager to help dispel myths about food banks and shine a light on the incredible work Bournemouth Foodbank does and the services they offer.

“I look forward to assisting in fundraising efforts and, when my training schedule permits, participating in community events to further support these vital initiatives.”

Rio Argent, grants and foundations manager at Bournemouth Foodbank, said: “We are thrilled about this collaboration.

“Having a champion and local hero like CBS engaged with our initiatives brings a significant boost to our efforts.

“It's truly inspiring to partner with someone who embodies the spirit of resilience and community support, further elevating the impactful work we do.”

The food bank also appealed for urgent help from the community after an ‘exceptionally active’ Christmas period.

It said it was facing critically low stock levels, and asked for donations to its ongoing crowd funder, which is active until February 3.
