SEA defences are to be removed at the end of winter.

The temporary concrete sea defences along Swanage seafront are to be taken away at the end of March by the Environment Agency.

Part of High Street, between Seymer Road and Encombe Road, will be closed between 9am and 5pm on March 25 and 27.

Swanage Town Council said: “As part of the Swanage Town Coastal Protection Scheme, concrete temporary seasonal wave barriers in the form of Legato blocks are deployed in Swanage every autumn from October to April to reduce the risk of flooding from the sea.

“They are removed in the spring when the risk of easterly storms is reduced. The blocks are installed by the Environment Agency and help protect the town from coastal flooding.

“In partnership, Dorset Council, the Environment Agency and Swanage Town Council are working to reach a permanent flood protection solution.”

Late last year, Storm Ciaran caused the temporary wave barriers to shift and flip over on Monkey Beach.

It is believed that one large wave pushed the barriers, followed by a second large wave which flipped some of them.
