'Disruptive' snow could be on its way to Dorset early this week, a weather forecaster has predicted.

There could be a 35 to 40 per cent chance of snow falling in the county on Wednesday, January 17, as the UK braces for a cold spell.

Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing with the Met Office warning temperatures in Bournemouth could feel like –6C at night.

Bournemouth-based weather enthusiast UK Extreme Weather said the the weather forecast has been “bullish” in bringing snow to the south.

He said: “A couple of models have been quite bullish in bringing the snow into the south of England first thing on Wednesday and equally a couple are keeping the fronts in the channel.

“There has been a notable shift north over the weekend in all the models, so I think we have to assume there is certainly a chance of seeing some disruptive snow across Dorset from the early hours of Wednesday throughout the day.

“I would put that risk at 35-40 per cent at the moment. But it’s still a changing forecast so keep up to date.”

The Met Office said the outlook for Tuesday to Thursday is: “Largely dry for most, but scattered light wintry flurries on Tuesday and rain and snow may affect southern coasts on Wednesday perhaps giving icy conditions. Dry on Thursday. Frosty nights.”
