A QUAINT and ‘beautiful’ café has put itself on the map in Wimborne.

Little Pickle at The Mill has announced its opening in the courtyard of Walford Mill.

Owners Andrew and Karen Spong took over the site last spring, however, they have allowed themselves to settle in before boasting their café on social media.

The husband-and-wife duo are now keen to share their ‘hidden gem’ with Wimborne.

Karen said: “It’s a really pretty riverside setting. We’ve got this lovely outdoor terrace – it’s an Ibiza or Boho vibe.

“We don’t have Wi-Fi, because we try to encourage people to talk and have conversations.

“We have loads of wildlife around us, in the summer we open the doors up and you can hear the birds and see the fish in the river, it’s just beautiful.”

But Little Pickle at The Mill has offerings beyond its setting and atmosphere; it also boasts a delicious food and drinks menu.

Guests can enjoy coffee, hot chocolates or a pint of Eight Arch from its licenced bar, as well as cakes, breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, with both vegetarian and vegan options available.

Karen said: “It’s all fresh, and apart from a few cakes we buy from local suppliers, most our offerings are homemade.

“The cheese that we use is coastal cheddar, we buy the ham from the local butchers.

“We do great coffee, but we also do amazing hot chocolate, we buy it in from a Swedish company and it's just dreamy.”

Andrew and Karen previously ran the Little Pickle Deli Café in Boscombe, before closing it last summer.

The pair already have big plans for their new site in Wimborne.

Karen said: “This summer, we want to run community events. We want to have live music, BBQs, parties.

"It just lends itself to all sorts of beautiful events, which people can come and join in."

Little Pickle at The Mill is due to host its first ‘Supper Club Night’ on Thursday, Jan 25, centred around remembering Scottish legend Robbie Burns.

There will be food, piper and Burns traditions, and some “outrageous poems”, say staff.
