A PUB could be set for a fresh lick of paint and new doors under new plans submitted for approval.

The Libertine in Westbourne lodged the proposal to BCP Council for a range of works, including a full redecoration of the outside of the building.

Applicant Young’s & Co Brewery say the proposed changes would help to increase the pub’s customer base, while the external improvements would increase its ‘kerb appeal’.

The pub’s exterior would be completely redecorated and refreshed.

A design and access statement submitted to the council by Emma Simmonds Design on behalf of the applicant said: “Externally the building’s paintwork is tired, fading and in need of a refresh.

“The redecoration will help keep the external area looking attractive to maintain high standards and to keep the streetscape looking presentable.

“Young & Co. would like to take the opportunity of repainting the building in a new colour palette to help increase the curb appeal for customers as well as signal that the pub is now under new ownership.”

The Libertine was bought by Young’s in the summer of 2023, from Marston’s.

The ground floor of the pub would be painted ‘Harley Green’, while the first floor would be painted ‘Rolling Fog’ – a shade of neutral light brown paint.

New exterior lighting would also help increase curb appeal, the application said, while also ensuring the pub is well lit to increase safety.

An area of hardstanding on Alumhurst Road would be transformed into outdoor seating under the plans, as the pub’s outdoor areas are refreshed with new flooring and planters.

The doors into the pub would be replaced in the plans, as the current doors’ paintwork has become chipped.

They will be replaced with ‘stained timber’ doors, which will not chip or tarnish.

Inside the pub, the applicant is proposing to install a new wood burning stove.

This, it said, would allow “a more cosy internal area in the winter months to entice customers to enjoy the warm surroundings of the pub.”

All the proposed alterations would help to improve the longevity and the success of the business, the applicant said.

No date has been set for a decision on the plans at this stage.
