IMPORTANT and costly work to replace an aging water main is expected to last for two months.

Wessex Water will be carrying out a rolling road closure in stages through Langton Matravers along the B3069, High Street/Coombe Hill.

Starting on Monday, January 8, the utilities company will begin at Serrells Mead and continue to nearby Steppes, followed by a three-way traffic light system on the last day to complete connections.

Work on the £150,000 project is expected to be done by Friday, March 8.

A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “This is a major investment of nearly £150,000 towards improving the quality of water supply throughout Langton Matravers by replacing an ageing main.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this essential project, which is expected to be completed by Friday 8 March.”

He added: “The scheme will improve water quality and reduce the risk of supply interruptions in the area.”

Prior to starting, Wessex Water said it wrote to its customers and businesses about the work as well as met with the parish council to keep it informed.

It also worked with St George’s C of E Primary School to provide a safe area for pupils to be dropped off and collected in the mornings and afternoons while this work is taking place.

The work will disrupt Morebus’ Breezer 40 bus route which runs between Poole and Swanage.

Bournemouth Echo:

Richard Wade, Morebus’ general manager, said the Breezerr 40 will not be able to serve either Langton Matravers or Kingston between January 8 and February 17.

“Instead, they will be diverting via Harmans Cross, and will leave Swanage five minutes later across every departure each day,” he said.

“During this time, we will be providing a special free shuttle minibus service, starting at Steppes Hill and finishing at Corfe Castle (East Street) to connect our customers with most Breezer 40 journeys.

“The 16 seater minibus shuttle will run every day of the week, with two return trips direct to swanage Monday to Saturday.

“We will be working hard to minimise any disruption for our customers for the duration of these works, and I would like to thank them, in advance, for their understanding during this period.

“Full timetable information can be found on our website. Our customers can also plan journeys and track buses via our app. We will be updating our social media channels regularly with all the latest service information.”

The shuttle bus will be paid for by Wessex Water.
