CONTROVERSIAL plans to transform a caravan park have been recommended for approval, despite more than 70 objections.

A proposal to create a nine-hole mini-golf course and water park at Shorefield Country Park have been slammed.

Lodged by Shorefield Holidays Ltd, they have been dubbed as a "Butlin's-style campsite".

However, they have been recommended to be approved by the New Forest District Council.

The application has received 72 objections, including from Milford on Sea Parish Council.

Documents lodged with NFDC state: "Milford on Sea Parish Council strongly object to the proposals within this planning application and believe it to be overdevelopment in a rural location."

The parish council also raised concerns about increased noise levels created by a proposed activity green.

The original plans, submitted in June 2023, were later withdrawn after receiving 180 objections, and included an area called the Astroturf Festival Arena.

This would have been used for large outdoor events, however, concerns were raised about noise pollution.

The space has now been earmarked as an activity green but there are worries this will still be used for large outdoor events.

The council said: "The parish council is vehemently opposed to increased noise levels and disturbance from probable unspecified events on the activity lawn, day and night."

Despite this, the plans have been recommended for approval.

The Milford authority has also objected to the plans and said they would have a negative impact on wildlife and nesting birds.

A resident who commented on the application said: "We have to live here and what was once a quiet location close by to a family country park, is turning into a Butlin's-style campsite."

A report to district councillors has stated the proposal is in line with policy and takes a "positive approach" to support the local tourism industry.

The report added that noise and light pollution could be "suitably mitigated" through conditions relating to hours of use.

The plans will go to committee on January 10.
