A RECYCLING centre in Bournemouth was forced to close after the road leading to the site was flooded.

Bournemouth Recycling Centre, in Millhams Road, was shut on Wednesday, December 6, due to flooding from the nearby River Stour.

Although the flood water is subsiding, a yellow weather warning is in place for the area for rain from 11am until 10pm tomorrow, December 7.

The council apologised for the inconvenience caused by the closure, and, ahead of the forecast rain, asked residents to check on the centre’s website to confirm it is open.

Cllr Andy Hadley, portfolio holder for climate response, environment and energy said: “We closed Bournemouth Recycling Centre this morning due to excessive flood water from the River Stour making the road conditions dangerous.

“The water is subsiding but with anticipated heavy rainfall over the coming days, please could all residents check the website before visiting.”

“We apologise for any inconvenience this closure may cause, but residents can still visit one of our other recycling centres at Wilverley Road, Christchurch and Nuffield, Poole to dispose of their waste.”
