A BOSCOMBE bakery serving a cubed version of the traditional croissant has been crowned a national baking winner.

M's Bakery won the award for new bakery product of the year from the Baking Industry Awards with its chocolate and raspberry cube croissant.

Established in 2017, it was named after co-owner Marta whose dream was to open a bakery.

As well as its famous croissants, M’s sells other fresh baked goods including sourdough bread, tartlets, and mille-feuille.

Bournemouth Echo:

Speaking on the win, co-owner, and Marta's husband, Istvan Ndhzi said: “We are very, very happy.

“We didn't expect anything like that because we had very strong competition in this category.

“Our team is very chuffed about this.

Talking about the winning product, Istvan added: “It’s a premium product, so we only do them on Friday and Saturday.

“It's a layered dough, basically made of the croissant dough.”

The award-winning delicacy takes three days to make.

He added: “We bake it in a little tin and just feel it and decorate it and it's almost like a perfect shape for a croissant.

“We also have one with caramelized white chocolate which is also a very good combination because it reflects autumn.

“The raspberry is a little bit summery, and we are thinking about doing something new for the Christmas period.”

According to Baking Industry Awards, judges described the indulgent pastry as a ‘triumph'.

Before opening their venture on Christchurch Road, Istvan and Marta sold their baked goods at Boscombe market for a year.

Istvan previously worked as a baker at Mark Bennetts before deciding to open his own bakery with his wife Marta.

The bakery is also renowned for its bread, Istvan added: “Our sourdough bread is the best in the county, we have proudly won the Overall Gold in the World Bread Awards in both 2018 and 2022.

M’s has also been awarded other titles over the years including a TripAdvisor Travellers Choice Award and the National Bakery Awards county winner.

The bakery also has a sister shop on Saxon Square in Christchurch.

The Baking Industry Awards were held at Royal Lancaster London on November 7.
