FOUR areas across BCP have been alerted to sewage discharge over the past 48 hours.
After a period of rainfall, a storm overflow will be operated automatically by Wessex Water, releasing ‘predominantly rainfall’ to stop sewers from becoming overwhelmed.
This type of incident is labelled a ‘sewage pollution alert’ and is flagged by the local water authority.
Sewage pollution alerts have been raised for Friars Cliff, Christchurch Avon Beach, Rockley Sands and Kite Beach.
According to Surfers Against Sewage, sewage has been discharged within the past 48 hours.
The group has warned that bathing water may be affected.
