A ROAD network which has been plagued with trouble is set for even more closures which will run into the new year.

Full road closures of Christchurch Road, at the Longham double mini roundabouts, are already in place and expected to last until November 30.

SGN has been investigating gas leaks and workmen will be replacing a 100-metre metal gas pipe with a new plastic one, which will reduce the need for future repairs.

However, the company has now announced further road closures.

Ringwood Road, the section next to Christchurch Road and the roundabouts where the work is ongoing, will be closed from Friday, December 1 – the day after Christchurch Road reopens.

This closure is expected to be in place until January 5.

SGN has said it needs to dig into the ground to connect the new gas pipe to the gas network in Ringwood Road.

A signed diversion route will be in place taking motorists up Ham Lane, onto the A31 and back onto Ringwood Road.

SGN’s spokesperson said: “Bus services will be impacted during the Ringwood Road closure – we would advise passengers to speak to their providers for the latest information on changes to routes, timetables and bus stop locations.

“Cycle and pedestrian access will be maintained through both work locations.

“Please be assured that we've considered all traffic management options for this work with no other safe option than to close the road.

“To ensure these works are completed without delay, our engineers will be working from 8am to 7pm Monday to Saturday and Sundays when required.

“We’re sorry for the inconvenience these urgent works may cause. Our engineers will be doing all they can to minimise disruption as much as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

There is a diversion route in place to go from Christchurch Road to New Road and onto Ringwood Road.
