An impressive crowd gathered at Stanpit Recreation Ground in Christchurch for the Daily Echo-sponsored charity bonfire.
Fortunately, the event took place on November 5, 2003, before severe weather swept through the area, with sunshine and clear skies providing ideal conditions for a spectacular display of fireworks.
The immense success of the fundraising event was evident from the ‘sold out’ signs seen on stalls towards the end of the day as well as the thousands of pounds raised for local youth organisations.
The local rotary and nearby youth organisations, managed the event as well as setting it up and clearing it away in heavy rain.
The bonfire, fireworks, food and entertainment was enjoyed by everyone - children and adults alike.
