ORGANISERS of a Halloween event due to be held this weekend have cancelled because of an “unprecedented amount” of rain.

Ghost-themed experience Scream Aloud, similar to an escape room, has been cancelled for both Saturday and Sunday because of the heavy downpours last night.

The event site, off Southampton Road in Lymington, became waterlogged overnight after a yellow weather warning was issued by the Met Office.

It said the rain will be heavy and thundery at times with up to 30mm of rainfall seen in some places this morning.

In a statement, the organisers said it was with “deep regret” they had to cancel the two-day scare-fest.

They said: “Despite our best efforts, the event site has become waterlogged due to the unprecedented amount of rain we've experienced this month, rendering it impossible to proceed with the event as planned.

“We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and understanding.

“We understand the inconvenience and disappointment this cancellation may cause, and we sincerely apologise for any disruption it has caused to your plans.

“Our dedicated team is committed to processing refunds promptly for all bookings made for the dates of Saturday, October 28, 2023, and Sunday, October 29, 2023.

“You need not take any action; we will ensure that you receive your refunds as soon as possible.

“Thank you for being a part of the Scream Aloud community, and we look forward to the opportunity to create a better experience for you in the future. Please stay tuned for updates on upcoming events.”

A Met Office spokesperson said: “After a wet week, further heavy and at times thundery showers, will merge into longer spells of rain between early Saturday and Sunday morning.

“Many parts of the warning area will see 15-30 mm, whilst the wettest spots, most likely close to English Channel coasts, could see 50-70 mm.

“In addition, overnight Saturday into early Sunday, strong winds gusting 45-55 mph are also probable along exposed parts of the English Channel coastline.”

There is a “small chance” homes and businesses could be flooded, with delays to train and bus services also possible.

On the roads, spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

Power cuts could also occur, the Met Office said.
