THE new owner of a well-loved pub in Parkstone says she is determined to make it ‘the hub of the community again’.

Angela Macdonald re-opened The Tavern in Rossmore Road last month and has finally welcomed back punters.

The watering hole, also known as the Rossmore Tavern, was closed and boarded up on May 9 when the previous landlord left.

Bournemouth Echo: Angie, the owner of The Tavern in Poole.

Now, Angela says residents are “grateful” to have the popular boozer back.

She told the Daily Echo: “It’s a local’s pub, it’s a residential area, and it’s a beautiful building – it’s such a shame it closed really.

“It’s just a boozer, where people go and see people they haven’t seen for months. There’s not many around like that anymore.

“I want to make it the hub of the community again like it used to be.”

Angela has lived in the area since she was a teenager and so knew it was a popular spot for punters.

When its previous landlord left and it went up for sale, Angela decided to take a chance.

She told the Daily Echo: “I worked with Marston’s for years, and I just felt I’d come to the end of where I was.

“A few of my customers kept coming in and saying The Tavern is going for sale. So, I went along, thinking I wouldn’t go through with it, but when I went in, I was sold.”

Angela then worked hard to get the building transformed ahead of a mid-September opening.

She said: “It took a lot of work to get it up to standard because it had been closed since May.”

While the pub is still without a kitchen, it has already experienced great success with drinkers and returning regulars alone.

Angela added: “We will be getting a commercial kitchen to start doing food. I think that’s what it needs.

“People are just so grateful that the doors are open because it’s been missed.”
