A POPULAR pub has reopened after a six-figure renovation.

Former Poole Town FC manager Tommy Killick cut the ribbon to reopen The Red Lion, on Blandford Road, Poole, after it closed its doors in September.

The pub, which was previously a Hungry Horse pub, has now opened its doors once more as a Greene King site.

‘Major’ work has been done inside and outside of the pub, which the pub chain said was to ‘revitalise the existing space and give it a brand-new look and feel’.

A complete makeover inside the pub now has new décor, with new furnishing, to ‘create a contemporary, vibrant aura whilst keeping a traditional pub vibe’.

Outside, there is a new heated pergola with festoon lighting.

Ahead of the reopening, the pub ran a competition on social media to find ‘Poole’s local hero’ to cut the ribbon on the opening night, with the community choosing the former Poole manager.

The pub will offer Sky and TNT Sport to show major matches for sports fans, with a revamped food and drinks menu.

Dave Warrington, general manager of the pub, said: “Our team at The Red Lion, are thrilled to finally open our doors following the exciting refurbishment.

“The Red Lion has always been a central pillar of the local community, and we look forward to welcoming both new and old customers to try out our new offering.

“The revamp has brought a whole new lease of life to the pub, and we’re confident that customers will love our improved facilities, menu and more for an even better drinking and dining experience than ever before.”

The pub aims to be a hot spot for all in the local community, and is a dog friendly pub, inside and outside.

The renovations and investment allowed for a number of job opportunities, with the pub recruiting a number of new staff.

The Red Lion has planned seasonal events for Halloween and Christmas, and will be hosting regular events including mother and baby and seniors events, plus quizzes and regular live music.

The pub is also sponsoring local sports teams, including Poole Town FC and Poole Wanderers.
