CHRISTCHURCH high street has been closed for emergency repairs to a burst water main.

Bournemouth Water was first alerted to the burst main on the evening of Tuesday, October 10.

The road was closed between the Fountain Roundabout to the junction with Bridge Street, while emergency work was carried out to fix the main, which has now been completed.

The water company then liaised with another company to lay cabling before the road was re-laid.

While the road is closed, a diversion took road users via fountain roundabout, Christchurch by-pass, Stoney Lane and Bridge Street.

The road should reopen tomorrow, October 13.

A Bournemouth Water spokesperson said: “We were first notified of a burst water main along Christchurch High Street on Tuesday evening [October 10], which required the road’s closure to allow for repair work.

“The burst has now been repaired but, to minimise future disruption for residents, we have collaborated with another company to carry out cabling work for the nearby Fountain Roundabout traffic lights before the road is re-laid.

“This should be completed tomorrow, and the road fully re-opened by the afternoon. We would like to thank local residents for their patience during these essential works.”
