A residential care home provider in Bournemouth has been rated as ‘good’ after inspections from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Portelet Care manages four residential care homes across Bournemouth, specialising in people with mental health needs.

Two of the homes, Portelet Lodge Care Home on Westby Road, Boscombe, and Portelet House Care Home on Grande Avenue, Southbourne, were visited by CQC inspectors last month.

Residents living in Portelet Lodge Care Home told inspectors they were ‘safe’ and ‘happy’ living at the home.

The residential site is home to 20 residents and its latest report was released on October 4.

The report read: “Staff and people interacted with each other in a kind and affectionate way.

“The home felt relaxed, with a vibrant, fun feel.”

Inspectors visiting Portelet House Care Home found 14 people living in the home, most of whom suffered from dementia.

The report, which was also released on October 4, said: “People were safe and settled living at Portelet House.

“People told us they liked living there and felt safe, comfortable, and happy.

“One person told us: "My friends are here. I am very happy. The staff are very nice here.”

It added: “We observed staff supporting and interacting with people in a kind, friendly and calm way.

“Staff knew people well and spoke knowledgeably about their likes and dislikes.”

Both homes are in the process of implementing improvements to fire safety.
