RNLI lifesavers from Poole will feature in the new series of popular TV show Saving Lives at Sea next week.

The forthcoming episode, which airs on Thursday, October 5, at 8pm on BBC Two, includes Poole RNLI volunteers as they search for two missing paddleboarders.

Huggy Huggins, volunteer crew at Poole who will feature in the upcoming episode, said: “You’ll see Poole volunteers launch into action as darkness falls after multiple 999 calls were made reporting two paddleboarders in difficulty.

”On arriving at the location just outside the harbour, we couldn’t see them, so the pressure was on to find them.”

He added: “Our lifesaving work would not be possible without donations from the public and we are delighted to be able to share a frontline view of the rescues they support with their kind generosity.”

The 10-part documentary is now in its eighth series and includes the lifesaving work of RNLI lifeguards and volunteer lifeboat crews from around the UK and Ireland.

The show features footage captured on helmet and boat cameras, meaning viewers can watch dramatic rescues through the eyes of RNLI lifesavers.

It also allows viewers to meet the people behind the pagers and those rescued by the charity’s lifesavers.

The latest series began on Thursday, September 28, at 8pm on BBC Two and will also be available on BBC iPlayer following broadcast.

In 2022, RNLI lifeboat crews around the UK and Ireland launched 9,312 times, saving 389 lives.

Meanwhile, the charity’s lifeguards aided 23,204 people and saved 117 lives on some of the UK’s busiest beaches.
