BUILDERS tasked with constructing more than 160 homes in Carter’s Quay, Poole on behalf of BCP Council are poised to go into administration.

Inland Homes, which is tasked with building 161 new rental homes at Holes Bay, Hamworthy, has filed a notice to go into administration.

It now puts the future of the £43.5m council project up in the air.

BCP Council acquired the Carter’s Quay site in Poole in late 2021 and paid Inland Homes an initial £8.25million at the start of the housing project.

A further £6.75million has been paid on the project, including non-construction works related to the project taking the total known sum paid to the firm £15m.

It remains unclear if any more council taxpayers’ money has been given to the struggling firm.

Cllr Vikki Slade, leader of BCP Council said: “We are aware of Inland Homes PLC’s intention to appoint administrators, and the implications this may have for the group of companies.

“The country, construction industry and local authorities are all facing a challenging economic environment with increasing costs.

“As a responsible council, we have been tackling the effects of this on our projects and proactively managing the progress of the Carters Quay development.

“We have been in ongoing negotiations with the developers of the Carters Quay scheme, who are a company in the Inland Homes group and our officers have been working diligently on solutions for every possible outcome.

“We’ve been open to options and forward-thinking, but firm in the view that we must secure the best deal for our residents and the project.

“A large amount of work has been done behind the scenes to keep this project moving forward, and our team will continue to pursue this course of action, taking account of any potential impacts on the Carters Quay development.”

Anticipated to be completed by the end of 2024, concern was raised in August about the apparent lack of progress on the site over the past few months.

Cllr Marcus Andrews said earlier this year that Inland’s shares were suspended from trading in April and publication of the 2021/22 accounts had been delayed several times.

Just last month, Inland Homes told the Echo it is “committed” to delivering the project in Poole.

A statement on the London Stock Exhange said: “It is intended that the formal appointment of Administrators in respect of Inland, those subsidiaries and the remaining Inland group companies will be made imminently.”
