DORSET’S newest supermarket will open its doors in mid-October.

A new M&S Food store is to open in the old M&Co unit at the Crown Mead Shopping Centre in Wimborne on Thursday, October 12.

As well as creating more than 25 new jobs, the new-look M&S Wimborne Minster store is a “significant” investment in Wimborne’s economy.

The shopping centre has had an empty unit since November when M&Co moved out and shoppers have said they “cannot wait” for the new supermarket.

Caroline Slowey-Dickinson, operations director for Sandpiper Stores which operates the store, said she is “really excited” to announce the opening date.

She added: “The store opening promises to be a significant occasion with Percy Pig, Wimborne’s mayor and town crier and also pupils from St John’s CE VC First School officiating at the opening.

“We can’t wait to welcome the local community in to visit the store next month and see it all for themselves.”

Spanning 4,000 sq ft, the store promises customers M&S Food favourites, including fresh produce and meat from M&S Select Farms, popular prepared meals and store cupboard essentials.

The store will also offer an M&S Bakery along with an online click-and-collect service.

The new supermarket will be opened at 9am by pupils from St John’s CE VC First School along with M&S’s mascot Percy Pig, the mayor of Wimborne Cllr Diann March and the town crier.

M&S Wimborne will be open Monday to Saturday 8am to 8pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
