AN environmental campaign group is set to hold a ‘critical mass’ bike ride this week.

Cycling Rebellion, a part of Extinction Rebellion BCP, will hold its bike ride on Friday, September 29, beginning at Poole station.

It is now the group’s third event after the campaign began in July in Bournemouth.

The group is campaigning for safer cycling infrastructure in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

The ride will leave Poole station at 6pm and follow a 9km route around Poole ending at the Quay for drinks.

In July, organiser Adam Osman said the group would like an ‘ongoing dialogue’ with BCP Council.

He said that Cycling Rebellion's message was that cycling and driving ‘should go hand in hand’ as cycling was proven to reduce traffic for people in cars.

Another point it wants to highlight is that 50 per cent of commutes in the BCP area are below three miles and can be cycled in around 20 minutes, Adam said.

The group said everyone is welcome to join the ride, which is at a slow pace and will be stewarded to stay together.

The event begins at 6pm on Friday, September 29 at Poole Railway Station.
