A Christchurch shop is set to undergo a huge re-vamp.

Fantastic Things in Saxon Square will be temporarily closed from October 1 to October 6 while the store is refurbished.

Owners say the new design “promises” to improve on the customer experience as well as disabled accesses.

Retail director Sian Hillman said: "After two years on the high street, we've gained valuable insights, and now we're using that to redesign and refresh our Christchurch store to make the experience even better for our customers."

Fantastic Things, founded in March 2021, aims to provide artisans with an affordable and accessible place to showcase and sell their creations.

Traders sell everything from jewellery, clothing and handbags, to coffee, artwork and novelty toys.

Sian said: “We're not just a store; we're a hub for creatives from the local community, giving local talent a place to sell with the public year-round, rather than having to rely on short-term markets.

“When you shop with Fantastic Things, you’re not supporting a big corporation with hundreds of stores, you’re supporting the local community, giving local creatives the opportunity to earn a living doing what they love.

“Fantastic Things in Christchurch was our way of doing that, and it's grown into an unstoppable force, now with two physical stores and a thriving online presence."

Fantastic Things began with the Saxon Square store and a second emporium in Bournemouth town centre is now thriving.

The store, in The Arcade off Old Christchurch Road, opened for the first time in August.

At the time, managing director Mark Battistini told the Daily Echo he hopes the venture in Bournemouth is the start of a franchise.

“We would love to expand even more and want to open a new one every six months,” he said.

“We’d like one in Poole, Ringwood, Southampton and further as this model really supports the high street.”

The grand unveiling of the re-vamped Christchurch store will take place at 10am on October 7.

The Bournemouth store remains open for business during the re-vamp.
