The dog days are over and pooches will soon be returning to Dorset beaches, but which beaches are the best to take your furry friend?

There were over one thousand searches in Google for ‘dog-friendly beach in Dorset’ in the past month.

Researchers at Dream Cottages have looked at data from Google searches and social media to determine which Dorset beaches are best for dog owners.

The beaches were rated based on Google reviews and average ratings, TikTok hashtags and Instagram posts.

Weymouth Beach was named the best beach for dog owners to visit, rated 97/100 in the study.

Although dogs are allowed in the designated dog section of Weymouth Beach all year round, from October 1, dogs are allowed back on the sandy section of the beach up to Greenhill. Groyne.

In second place is Chesil Beach, with an 18-mile long stretch, it is one of the longest shingle beaches in the world.

Although dogs are welcome all year round from Abbotsbury to the Tank Teeth Boundary, from September 1, dogs are allowed on leads to the outer flank on the beach as well.

In third place is West Bay Beach, the beach has appeared in many TV shows and films such as Broadchurch and Far from the Madding Crowd and is open to dogs from October.

The soft, golden sand is a delight to dog paws.

The study found that Lyme Regis Front Beach is the fourth best dog-friendly beach.

With plenty of space for dogs to run and play, and amenities such as cafes, restaurants, toilets, and showers for dog-owners, it’s a great location for an autumnal or winter walk.

Swanage beach was ranked the fifth best beach opening to dogs from October.

With dogs welcome all year round, off lead at Swanage's Monkey Beach (between Stone Quay and Swanage Pier).

Dogs are welcome off lead on Swanage's main beach between October 1 and 30th April.

The beach has 1,423 reviews on Google with visitors sharing that it’s a “lovely place to relax and unwind”
