SWANAGE Town Council is asking residents to have their say on two options for the stabilisation of the green seafront.

Three areas in the town need to undergo essential ground stabilisation works due to significant ground movement and slope instability.

The three sites of Sandpit Field, Weather Station Field, and the ‘Spa’ beach hut area have been monitored and it is recognised that works take place to protect the well-used community greenspaces.

The town council is asking for feedback on possible options that aim to stabilise and enhance the green seafront parallel to Shore Road.

The survey, which will close on October 31, presents two options, drafted by engineers WSP.

The first is an essential scheme option for essential works only.

The second is an enhanced option giving more public benefits, but it is more expensive and bigger in scope.

Cllr Tina Foster said: “Whilst the stabilisation works are essential and scheduled to be carried out in 2025/2026, there may be an opportunity to significantly enhance these areas.

“It is important to gain the community’s view on the two options.

“If additional funding can be sourced option 2 enhancements include, increased accessibility, biodiversity, seating, new larger beach huts, accessible toilet facilities and potentially a new plaza with eating and drinking space.

“Please take a look at the options and tell us your view on which option is best for Swanage.”

Options can be viewed online. The survey can be completed online at www.dorsetcoasthaveyoursay.co.uk/swanage-green-seafront-stabilisation.

Residents can attend three events to find out more and speak to the project team.

These events are the Planet Purbeck by the Seaside event on September 23 between 10am and 3pm, Swanage Market on October 6 and at the Mowlem Theatre show bar on October 19 between 4pm and 7pm.
