Four Dorset spots were named among the best towns and villages in the UK, according to the consumer watchdog Which?

It asked its members to rank the best destinations across the country, with Dorset seeing a few representatives.

Which?'s more than 9,000 members rated the top inland towns and villages they'd visited to find the best.

The survey asked members to rank these locations on their food & drink, tourist attractions, shopping and more.

Corfe Castle ranked in an impressive third place in the list, whilst Dorchester, Shaftesbury and Sherborne also featured.

Wells in Somerset and Avebury in neighbouring Wiltshire were named the best spots in the whole of the UK.

How did Dorset towns and villages rank in the Which? list?

Each of the locations received a 'Destination Score' out of 100% as well as being ranked out of five stars in various categories.

These were food & drink, tourist attractions, scenery, shopping, attractiveness, and peace & quiet.

Corfe Castle got a 'Destination Score' of 80% with it being ranked 5/5 for tourist attractions, scenery and attractiveness.

Elsewhere, it received 3/5 for the food & drink and peace & quiet categories, whilst it only got a 2/5 for shopping.

Shaftesbury
