DORSET’S Wilko stores are not among those set to close next week, it has been revealed.

A total of 52 stores will shut their doors across the country on Tuesday, September 12, and Thursday, September 14.

The nearest store earmarked for closure is the Southampton site located at West Quay Retail Park.

Wilko has branches in Poole, Boscombe, Winton, Ferndown, and Weymouth.

The news of the closures comes after PwC, which was appointed to oversee the insolvency last month, failed to secure a rescue deal for the whole business.

PwC however said it remains in talks with parties interested in buying the remaining parts of the business.

Rival retailer B&M has bought up to 51 Wilko stores in a deal worth up to £13 million.

It is understood HMV owner Doug Putman is still in discussions with PwC over a possible deal to save a significant number of stores.

Wilko in Bournemouth town centre shut for good in February 2022.

Speaking in January last year, a Wilko spokesperson said: “We have been looking at our options, but the reality is that we have been unable to reach an agreement with the landlord that makes this store commercially viable.”
