A HERITAGE steamship is spending a week in Poole after arriving quayside from Southampton.
SS Shieldhall arrived on bank holiday Monday, August 28, and visitors will get the chance to have a look inside the historic vessel.
A regular summer sight on the Solent with her distinctive steam whistle heard across Southampton, Shieldhall will be in Poole until Sunday, September 3.
The vessel has appeared in several television programmes, including Timeshift’s ‘The People’s Liners: Britain’s Lost Pleasure Fleet’ and various Titanic documentaries. It also featured in the Sacha Baron Cohen’s 2016 film, Grimsby.

While at Poole, Shieldhall will sail to view the Jurassic Coast on Tuesday, August 29, before guests will be able to visit the vessel on Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 between 10am and 4pm.
These open days allow visitors to tour the ship from bridge to boiler room, meet Shieldhall’s volunteer crew, and learn about life on board a heritage steamship. Visitors can also see the engine room with its original steam engines still in place.
In addition, Shieldhall will be sailing out to visit the Bournemouth Air Festival on Friday, September 1, Saturday 2, and Sunday 3.
It will then make its return trip to Southampton, leaving Poole at 10am.
