A NEW nightclub in the town centre has plans to extend its opening hours.

The Vibe in Bournemouth Triangle is requesting for revellers to be allowed in from 6pm daily.

The club, trading as Ratio Bar Limited, can currently provide entertainment and sell alcohol between 9pm and 3am each night.

At the beginning of the year, its owners submitted a licensing application so the venue can stay open until 5am.

However, Dorset Police formally objected to the application and voiced concerns at a BCP Council licensing sub-committee meeting on February 15.

Sergeant Gareth Gosling, of the force’s drug and alcohol reduction team, told committee members: “I do believe the times being offered at 5am are too late at this premises. It will be used most likely by those leaving premises that close at a more reasonable hour.

“It’ll likely lead to crime and disorder.”

Members agreed, leading the applicant to adapt the terminal trading hour to 3am at the behest of police.

The owners were also given several conditions to abide by.

These included: “When the premises are open to the public, a minimum of six SIA registered door staff shall be deployed on Friday, Saturday and bank holiday Sundays, and a minimum of four SIA registered door staff shall be deployed on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and non-bank holiday Sundays.”

Now, Ratio Bar Ltd has applied to BCP council to increase the licensable hours for live and recorded music, performance of dance and on-site alcohol sales.

If approved, The Vibe will be allowed to open at 6pm, but will still have to close at 3am.

The owners have also requested an amendment to the licensing condition which relates to the number of SIA door staff required.

A decision is yet to be made on the application, and it will remain open for public consultation until September 5.
