AN IMMERSIVE dance experience is twirling its way to Swanage this September.

Founded in 2006, Landance is an artistic dance company performing in open spaces across the south west.

Landance has performed many distinctive live dance performances in locations such as Lyme Regis, Weymouth, Dorchester, the Valley of the Stones, and a number of other seaside towns.

The event will be taking place on Wednesday, September 6 and Thursday, September 7 on Swanage promenade.

Starting at around 7pm when dusk hits, beginning at Swanage Downs and ending at the Ampitheatre at Peveril Point Road, dancers will create an inspiring experience through dance, music, and lighting as the sun sets on the hills.

The second evening on Thursday has been modified to be a fully accessible event for anyone.

The first performance will be recorded and available to watch at the Ampitheatre the next evening to allow wheelchair users and less mobile audience to enjoy the show.

The event is with thanks to Art Council England which is funding the two evenings.

A spokesperson for Landance said: “Artistic director of Landance CIC, Ella Huhne, selected Swanage Bay for this year’s Landance location, inspired by the fluidity of light and water in this beautiful landscape.

“Professional artists in dance, music and design develop the performances on site.

“This year, the professional dance artists are Patricia Langa, Kip Johnson and Emily Thompson-Smith, collaborating with young dance artists Reuben Squirrell, Rory Armstrong and Mia Tongo Mesembe to create the piece.”

Landance have also been doing their bit for the community and young children of Swanage.

The spokesperson added: “Leading up to the performances, local young people have been enjoying inclusive workshops led by professional dancers in Swanage Library and nearby schools.

“Collaborating to create moves around the shifting of light and water for the dancers to incorporate into the performances.”

Although tickets are free, booking is preferred, for less mobile users especially.
