A MAN was found unresponsive in a Christchurch nature reserve and could not be saved, an inquest heard.

Joseph James Dunlop was found by a member of the public at around 8am on Saturday, August 12 in Stanpit Marsh. 

Multiple emergency services attended the scene and paramedics pronounced Mr Dunlop dead at the scene. 

Dorset Police said there are no suspicious circumstances to the 38-year-old's death. 

Speaking at the opening of Mr Dunlop’s inquest, coroner’s officer Matt Cave said: “On Saturday, August 12 Joseph was found by a member of the public.

“South West Ambulance Service and Dorset Police had attended the scene and South West Ambulance Service had confirmed that Joseph had passed away and Dorset Police reported no suspicious circumstances.” 

The inquest heard how Mr Dunlop, born in Hammersmith and living in Monskwell Green, Christchurch, was formally identified by police using his driving licence found on him. 

Mr Cave added a postmortem examination was conducted by Dr Adel Abuomar Muhaisen at the Holly Tree Lodge in Boscombe who had given the medical cause of death as hanging. 

Dorset coroner Brendan Allen, who opened the inquest at Bournemouth town hall, asked for statements from Mr Dunlop’s family, Dorset Police regarding their investigation and mental health services to determine if he was known to them. 

Mr Allen adjourned the hearing ahead of a full inquest that will be held on March 18, 2024.
