A SUPPOSED parking ticket dished out to a police car – which an MP poked fun at – in fact contained an empty Kit Kat wrapper.
Sir Desmond Swayne, Conservative MP for New Forest West, tweeted an image of a police car parked in Lymington High Street supposedly with a parking ticket on the windshield.
He captioned the image ‘Opps!’ – meaning ‘oops’.
However, local officers have hit back at the suggestion that the car was ticketed and revealed it was a prank pulled by a member of the public.
A spokesperson from Lymington and New Milton Police said: “You may be aware of a picture being circulated on social media and in the news that was taken of a marked police vehicle in Lymington on Tuesday afternoon with a parking ticket envelope on the windscreen.
“I would just like to clarify that the officer who parked the vehicle did not get a parking ticket as the vehicle was parked legally and the envelope actually contained an empty Kit Kat wrapper, in what we would describe as a bit of 'high jinks' by a member of the public.
“On a busy day of completing enquiries in relation to the public order incident that had occurred the day before, with not much opportunity to 'have a break', it did cheer us up.”
