TRAVELLERS have set up an unauthorised encampment at a car park next to a Bournemouth beach.

Three caravans, a motorhome and associated cars have set up a camp in the Overstrand car park just off Boscombe Pier.

The police and BCP Council are both aware of the situation and are working to get it resolved after they arrived during the early hours of Thursday, August 3.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “We received a report at 2.07am on Thursday 3 August 2023 of an unauthorised encampment in the area of the Overstrand Car Park in Honeycombe Chine in Boscombe.

“Officers have attended and are liaising with the local authority.”

A BCP Council spokeswoman said: “We have been made aware of an unauthorised encampment on the Overstrand Car Park above the Pier in Boscombe this morning.

“BCP Council staff will be visiting site to carry out the statutory welfare and educational needs assessment, along with any necessary risk assessments in order to determine the level of support to be given to the group.”

They remain in place on Friday, August 4.
