A FATHER and daughter duo have swapped working in the skies to running a café and gift shop in Westbourne.

Kirsty and Gareth Jones are former airline cabin crew with Kirsty, 33, working for British Airways for seven years whilst Gareth, 53, worked for Virgin Atlantic for 21 years.

Saffron is located at Westbourne Arcade and has lots of café favourites to offer such as toasties, jacket potatoes, cakes, quiche and soup of the day.

The cafe also offers gifts like stationery, clothing, wax melts, wax warmers, and jewellery.

Afternoon teas are also available with either buttery scones or cheddar cheese scones, served with a choice of tea or an Americano coffee.

Gareth said: “We cook everything fresh. We really try and make everyone very welcome. We had a big family come in quite a lot, which is quite nice. We've got the space as well, for people to come in and feel comfortable.

“Someone said earlier that there are just enough tables because they said when other cafes open and stuff, they crowd as many tables and there's no actual room.

“Cakes are really popular. Kirsty makes some of the cakes and then we've got a lovely lady that makes some of our cakes as well.”

Gareth added: “We have always wanted to open an independent family run café and we found the perfect spot in beautiful Westbourne”.

Saffron opened its doors to Westbourne at the end of last month.

The café also welcomes four-legged friends.

Saffron is open from 9.30am to 4.30pm, six days a week, and is closed on Sundays.

Saffron was previously managed by Claire Lewis before the family duo took over in July earlier this year.

Claire wished the best of luck to Gareth and Kirsty.

She said: “Saffron will soon be under new ownership.

“We’re just completing the paperwork for the sale and then two lovely new owners will be taking the reins and keeping the Saffron sparkle alive.

“Times are tough (we all know…) but I hope and trust that you will all continue to support the new owners in the coming months and years.”
