A CHARITY shop in New Milton is helping empower and celebrate a disabled man.

Revitalise, which improves the lives of disabled people, has employed Trevor Davis at its store in Station Road for nearly three years.

Research from the Down’s Syndrome Association shows that in 2019, only 5.9 per cent of people with learning disabilities known to social services are in any form of paid work, while 65 per cent of them wanted to work.

By employing Trevor, Revitalise is celebrating the unique abilities of disabled individuals, whilst highlighting the power of inclusive employment and volunteering.

It also means that disabled people and their carers can take their vital respite breaks.

Trevor has demonstrated huge commitment working at the New Milton charity shop, taking initiative and carrying out his responsibilities with enthusiasm.

In addition to his work ethic, Trevor's personality shines through his interactions with both staff and customers.

He embraces the opportunity to go above and beyond, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed.

The entire staff has developed a deep affection for Trevor.

Trevor said his favourite part about working at Revitalise is the “friendships at work” and “helping others”. He also enjoys hanging clothes and working on the till.

Working closely with him is Vicky – who helps Trevor at the sales counter and guides him through operations at the cash register.

She said: “Trevor is such a lovely human being and a joy to work with. We adore him. He brightens our day and we’re lucky to have him.”

Rebecca Young, director of strategy, impact and external affairs at Revitalise, said: “We are thrilled to have Trevor as a part of our charity shop team.

"He shows the transformative impact of inclusive employment and volunteering and demonstrates the importance of creating a society that embraces diversity and fosters a sense of belonging.

"At Revitalise, we are committed to breaking down barriers and celebrating the unique abilities of disabled individuals."
