A GROUP of travellers have has set up a new unauthorised encampment near Castlepoint in Bournemouth

Several caravans, along with associated cars and vans, have set up camp on empty land off Throop Road, close to the shopping centre. 

Police are aware of the latest development and are working with BCP Council and enquiries to identify the landower are ongoing. 

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “We received a report at 4.19pm on Sunday 23 July 2023 of an unauthorised encampment in the area of Woodbury Avenue in Bournemouth. 

“Officers have attended the site and have been liaising with the local authority. Enquiries to identify the landowner are ongoing.” 

A BCP Council spokeswoman said: “We have been made aware of an unauthorised encampment consisting of a reported seven units in a field off Valley Road in Townsend, Bournemouth. 

“BCP Council staff will be visiting site to carry out the statutory welfare and educational needs assessment, along with any necessary risk assessments in order to determine the level of support to be given to the group.”
