A “FOUL smell” on an industrial estate in east Dorset has prompted an investigation.

Residents living near Ebblake Industrial Estate off the B3081 in Verwood were urged to keep their windows and doors closed amid ongoing enquiries on Saturday, July 22.

The fire service, Wessex Water and the Environment Agency have all been involved in determining the cause of the pungent pong.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said it had been made aware of a smell coming from the site at 1.50pm on Saturday afternoon.

Posting on Twitter at around 3.30pm, a spokesperson said fire crews were working with Wessex Water to ascertain the cause.

Firefighters from Verwood attended and left the scene at 4.18pm.

A short time later, the fire service said: “This incident has now been handed over to the Environment Agency for further investigation.”

The Daily Echo has contacted the Environment Agency for details.
