Whatever one’s opinion of Nigel Farage, it was utterly wrong for Coutts to close his account because ‘his beliefs do not align with our values’.

Coutts touts itself as being private banker to the wealthy, and I can’t help but wonder just how much of the wealth on deposit in its vaults is the ill-gotten gains of Russian oligarchs, repressive world leaders and other unsavoury characters.

If the truth be known, I suspect that the primary concern of Coutts, and most banks for that matter, is how rich prospective depositors are, rather than their political views of how they came by their money.
