ITEMS were damaged and stolen during a church burglary in Bournemouth.

A man reportedly entered St Stephen’s Church in St Stephen’s Way, before gaining entry to a private area and damaging a number of items.

It is also reported that a silvery sanctuary lamp, a statue of 'Our Lady of Walsingham' and a palm frond - which is described as a gold palm leaf - were stolen.

Police are now investigating the burglary that happened at around 9.30am on Friday, June 9.

Police community support investigator Rachael Buller, of Bournemouth police, said: “I am continuing to investigate this incident and am now in a position to issue a CCTV image of the suspect.

“I am appealing to anyone who recognises him, or has any information about the burglary, to please get in touch.

“Also, I am issuing images of the stolen items as they are very distinctive and I would ask anyone who has seen them for sale to please contact Dorset Police.”
