A SCHOOL in Bournemouth has unveiled wall art by a celebrated local graffiti artist.
The work by Tech Moon is at Stourfield Infant and Junior Schools’ playgrounds in Southbourne and is continuing to grow around the schools’ walls.
The Schools Parents and Friends Association (PFA) commissioned the artist, who has designed and painted murals around the conurbation.
Most recently, Tech Moon’s ‘striking’ fox mural was unveiled at the Branksome Centre in Poole.
The first piece of art to be revealed at Stourfield Infant School is of a seagull on Southbourne beach wearing sunglasses.
In the reflection on the glasses is a picture of the original Beaufort School, which was established in 1963, as a nod to the school’s history.
This was the idea of Stourfield Junior School’s headteacher Emma Rawson, while Infant School headteacher Pauline Sweetman came up with the idea of a beach scene, to reflect the school’s location.
Sophie Parker, chair of Stourfield Schools PFA said: “Tech Moon’s incredible artwork has created a buzz of excitement among the children.
“Every day they come out of class so excited as the mural progresses each day into an elaborate piece of art.
“The children absolutely love Tech Moon’s work and how he has transformed spaces around our community. We want Stourfield Schools to be a landmark for creative art.”
Sophie thanked Infant School teacher Carol Clothier for her involvement in the project, as well as the children and parents who raised funds for the project in the past five years.
“Even though some will have left school now, they will forever be able to admire the results of their hard work as they pass by,” she said.
“We’re looking forward to collaborating with Tech Moon further as he expands the piece over the next few weeks. Watch this space.”
Krishna Malla, aka Tech Moon, said: “This has been such a rewarding project to work on as I live just around the corner to the school, but I never expected such an enthusiastic audience.
“The children come out of class each day and cheer. They tell me how much they love my work - it’s very heart-warming.
“It’s a pleasure to mix history with a modern design that brings in all the unique elements of Southbourne and its schools.”
