A POPULAR Bournemouth town centre nightclub is to close later this month.

Revellers will enjoy one last night out at Walkabout, in Old Christchurch Road, on Saturday, July 22.

The nightclub, which hosts the popular Snakebite Sunday, will be holding a closing party before the venue reopens as Popworld Bournemouth in September.

In a statement on social media, Walkabout said the closure was the “end of an era”, adding: “We'll be saying farewell to Walkabout Bournemouth before we reopen as Popworld Bournemouth in September with a closing party on July 22.”

Hundreds took to social media to express their sadness. One woman said: “Awww no way.

Bournemouth Echo:

“I moved from Bournemouth 10 years ago, (not by choice!) Walkabout was defo my place to go every weekend, never found anywhere here anywhere near as good! Even had my leaving party there...”

While another added: “I spent my most memorable teenage years in here, happily dancing, necking snakebites and leaving my shoes behind.”

One man said: “Will be sad to see the Walkabout name disappear from Bournemouth, but being replaced by Popworld, a hugely popular and clearly successful brand.”

Popworld is a chain of nightclubs with the closest ones here being in Southampton and Weymouth.

Self-described as a “late-night bar with a difference – we are cheese with style”, the nightclub will serve up cocktails and “cheesy” pop tunes.
