REDUCING anti-social behaviour is the aim as a campaign returns to slash summer crime rates for the second year in a row.

Certain communities will be targeted as council community officers, alongside Dorset Police, again join a national initiation to tackle ASB during summer.

ASB Awareness Week will run from July 3 until July 9.

Last year, the BCP area saw reported crime rates fall by 25 per cent during peak summer season (April to August) in comparison to the year prior.

Council and police officials hope this summer will yield similar results.

Chief Inspector Darren Harris of Dorset Police said: “The neighbourhood policing teams have been listening to their local communities about the issues that affect them.

“We will be addressing these with our partners not only during ASB Awareness Week but as part of their day-to-day duties over the weeks and months ahead.”

Working in partnership with Resolve, an organisation which helps communities tackle ASB, each day of the campaign will have a different focus.

Councillor Keiran Wilson member for housing and regulatory services, added: “Keeping residents of BCP safe is a main priority to the council.

“Our CSAS and ASB officers do an important job working alongside Dorset Police to help tackle crime, and their continued efforts have supported us in reducing reports in recent times.

“However, unfortunately it is not possible to stop the problem entirely and irresponsible behaviour continues to cause harm.

“This scheme is here to help you and will ultimately help us to ensure BCP remains a safe and pleasant region in which to live.”

Locations to be visited include West Howe, Westbourne, Boscombe precinct, Turlin Moor, Sandbanks, Castlepoint, Bourne Valley and Bournemouth town centre.

Evidence suggests that 56 per cent of people in the UK still believe more needs to be done to tackle ASB in their area, and 57 per cent fail to raise a report when it happens as they do not believe appropriate action will be taken.
