AN AMERICAN coffee shop is to come to a Bournemouth retail park later this year.

Starbucks will be opening a new branch of its famous coffee shops in Ringwood Road Retail Park, in Ringwood Road, at some point “in the near future”.

It comes after BCP Council granted the multinational chain planning permission, with the new café joining household names such as Lidl, Dunelm, Matalan and TK Maxx.

A spokeswoman for Starbucks said: “We look forward to bringing the Starbucks Experience to more customers in Bournemouth in the near future and will be in touch with more details soon.”

Starbucks would not clarify when it hopes to get the new café open.

The new Starbucks will occupy the former Argos unit which has been vacant since February 2022 following the retailer's commitment to cease trading at 420 standalone UK sites by March 2024.

However, less than 15 per cent of the floor space of the unit will be occupied by Starbucks, with the remaining space going to Farmfoods.

Approximately 32 jobs will be created with the opening of Farmfoods and Starbucks, according to planning statements.
