A SCHOOL bus and a van collided this morning near Okeford Fitzpaine while driving children to school in Sturminster Newton.

The accident happened just before 8.30am near the common at Okeford Fitzpaine, about 100 yards from Room Farm. The driver of the van is thought to have suffered serious injuries and been airlifted to hospital.

Fire crews were forced to cut through a hedgerow to reach the injured man and free him from the wreckage of his vehicle.

Two of the 19 children on board the bus suffered minor injuries and shock and were collected by parents from the scene of the accident.

The remaining 17 children were collected by a separate coach from the contractor and driven to a senior school in Sturminster Newton.
