A MAN is due to stand trial accused of aggravated burglary following a hammer attack at a Bournemouth home. 

Feliciano Mendes appeared at Poole Magistrates' Court on Monday charged in connection with an assault in Moore Avenue, West Howe, last week. 

The 19-year-old of Redriffe Road, Stratford in London, has been remanded into custody and is now expected to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on June 8 this year. 

Police have said their investigation is ongoing, however, they are continuing their appeal to witnesses to come forward. 

Residents in Moore Avenue and the surrounding areas have been urged to check their CCTV systems or doorbell cameras for footage that could help.

Police previously reported that a woman had been attacked with a hammer when five men broke into a house.
