KING Charles III is due to be coronated at Westminster Abbey with millions of people across the world watching the historic ceremony.

In Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole hundreds of street parties have been organised to mark the event.

Meanwhile, homes have been decorated with bunting and banners of the monarch.

The Daily Echo has been asking people in Bournemouth town centre if they will be celebrating the occasion.

Shelly-Anne Orman, from Poole, said: “I haven’t decided whether I am going to slob in my pyjamas and watch it at home or go over to my parents or there’s a big screen down on Baiter which I think will probably be where I will go, just for the atmosphere.”

The 52-year-old, who works in customer services, added: “I think it’s going to be really cool; it was really sad when the Queen died, and I said to my mum she’s all I’ve ever known in my life so this is just something that I have never seen before.”

Speaking to an Echo reporter in the town centre on Friday, Maria Monson was on her way to get some nibbles and bits for the coronation. The 57-year-old translator said she would be cat-sitting for the day.

“I am happy because it’s good for the economy after what’s happening at the moment, I’m also excited to watch it tomorrow for the pomp, I’m sure it will be a lot of fun seeing lots of happy people celebrating,” she said.

Meanwhile, Errol Burrows, 47, said: “I’m looking forward to it. Me and my friends are going to get a few beers and watch it in the gardens because they have a big screen there rather than sitting at home - boring! I’m feeling positive about it as it could be the last one I see.”

Chiemeka Igwe feels great about the coronation describing it as awesome.

The 43-year-old medical worker plans on dressing in ‘blue, white and red and going to a party’.

Paul Lennard, also 43, a retail manager, thinks the event is good for the country.

However, he said he said it feels like a lot is happening in London and not so much in Bournemouth and other towns.

Ex guardsman, John Fletcher plans to watch the coronation on television but is not excited.

He said: “I am interested in the technical way of doing it, there’s nothing else like it in the world.”
