A man who stabbed a fisherman to death and injured two of his friends in a “terrifying 20-second burst of violence” has been jailed.

Draven Jewell, 22, was found not guilty of murdering father-of-one Max Maguire outside the Royal British Legion in Lymington on October 22, 2021, but he was convicted of manslaughter.

A fight broke out after a row between two groups inside the club after one challenged Jewell’s brother over his age, the trial was told.

Tensions also rose over a nitrous oxide canister that Jewell had found but refused to sell to the other group, which contained the three victims.

In the ensuing fight, Mr Maguire died within moments from a wound he received to the left side of his chest.

Draven Jewell claimed he acted in self-defence.

He was sentenced to 16 years in custody and four years on licence, with the term to be served in a mental health facility while treatment is ongoing.

A man who created and shared material on social media to stir up racial hatred has been jailed.

Gareth Anthony Brett, 35, posted content on Twitter and Telegram over several months which was anti-Semitic and against anyone perceived to be non-Aryan and non-European.

The vile content he posted online from mid-2020 to early-2021 included hostility towards the Jewish community with imagery and symbolism used by neo-Nazis, Bournemouth Crown Court heard.

Other posts included references to Adolf Hitler and extracts from the dictator’s book Mein Kampf.

Brett was arrested in January 2021 and, in interviews with police, claimed he was “simply posting the truth and helping people realise the truth about the world”, the court was told.

Brett was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by Judge Robert Pawson, who told the defendant: “You judge people on an individual basis, not on their colour, race or religion.”

A cocaine smuggler who transported drugs from South America in a year-long conspiracy has been jailed along with two accomplices.

Glynn Paul Davies worked with his girlfriend Sheena Spedding and business partner Lee Hollister – all from the New Forest – to sneak drugs into the UK by making multiple trips to Peru.

44-year-old Davies was stopped by Border Force officers at Gatwick having travelled on a flight from Lima and was caught with £80,000 worth of cocaine.

This discovery at the airport occurred in July 2018 and investigators at the National Crime Agency (NCA) found Davies had been in contact with Spedding throughout the trip.

Officers also found evidence that the flights had been paid for by his business partner Hollister.

Searches of Hollister’s home address identified numerous items associated with drug dealing, including scales and bags used for packaging up cocaine.

Davies was sentenced to nine years and four months in prison, while Spedding got four years for her part in the offence.

Hollister, meanwhile, was jailed for 11 years.

Lukasz Dawidkiewicz

A man who killed four pets after torching his ex-wife’s home out of “resentment” has been jailed.

Lukasz Dawidkiewicz, 41, left his former wife and their children homeless after he got drunk and set fire to her first-floor flat in Poole leaving “a scene of absolute devastation”.

Two cats and two guinea pigs perished in the fire – while one cat was able to escape.

Bournemouth Crown Court heard how the arsonist had sent his victim text messages threatening to set fire to the flat, using misogynistic language and telling her she would “return to find blackened walls and nothing to come back to”.

The fire ripped through the flat, above a bookies in Alder Road, in the early hours of May 1, 2022 – resulting in £100,000 worth of damage.

Sentencing, Judge Robert Pawson said the offences were committed “against a backdrop of domestic abuse”.

“You became subsumed in resentment and were unable to rationalise the end of your marriage,” he said.

Dawidkiewicz was sentenced to six years and six months in prison.

A woman who went on a one-month shoplifting spree attacked a shopworker and stole an antique clock.

Emma Nicholas brazenly raided five businesses in Lymington on January 25 this year stealing thousands of pounds worth of goods, a court heard.

The 36-year-old stole an antique clock, a hair appliance, a wallet, and a number of handbags among other things on the day, as well as assaulting a shopworker at one of the stores.

Officers identified Nicholas from CCTV images of the various incidents and she was jailed for eight months.

David Warnock

A pub landlord armed himself with a Stanley knife and an axe and urinated on a bedroom door before slashing one of the occupants in the arm.

Having consumed alcohol and smoked cannabis, David Paul Warnock, who was running the King’s Arms in Wallisdown, armed himself with the weapons and disturbed two guests who were in bed by urinating on the door to their room.

Bournemouth Crown Court heard that when the door was opened by complainant Ross Burns, the 62 year old landlord then “slashed” his guest with the Stanley knife – leaving him scarred.

While Warnock’s motives are unclear, during the trial Mr Burns said he thought Warnock wrongly believed “everyone was stealing” from him or “doing him over”.

Defence barrister, Tom Evans, said there was a link between his client’s post-traumatic stress disorder, which came from his time in the army, and his behaviour on the night of the incident.

Warnock, of Crescent Road in Bournemouth, was sentenced to three years having been found guilty of unlawful wounding.

A man who stole cash, cigarettes and watches from a house only to be snared by DNA has been jailed.

Quincy Rufus Digby Hopkins, 26, was sentenced in relation to a burglary in Cloughs Road in Ringwood on February 14, 2022.

Hopkins forced entry into the annex of the property and stole cash, cigarettes, and several watches.

The burglar was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

He is the second man to be jailed in connection with the incident, following accomplice William Sheen who received a 28-month sentence for the burglary among others.

Police Staff Investigator Stephen Hortin said: “Getting justice for this victim and having two burglars off the streets is a positive outcome for the communities we strive to protect.”

James Macky

A 'disinhibited' man spat at and sexually assaulted an emergency worker in a bout of “shocking and completely unacceptable” behaviour.

James Macky, 58, also subjected an ambulance crew to racist language before he urinated in their vehicle when it arrived at Poole Hospital.

A female ambulance clinician from Dorset was sexually assaulted by Macky after she and a fellow crew member responded to a 999 call to help him following a reported assault.

The defendant sexually assaulted the emergency worker in the back of an ambulance on the way to Poole. On arrival, he damaged the ambulance and urinated on life-saving equipment within the vehicle.

Representing the defendant at Bournemouth Crown Court, Pina Silvio said Macky, who previously worked as a chef, had been drinking and had no recollection of the events that day.

“He apologises to all those concerned and he is absolutely appalled by his abhorrent behaviour,” Mrs Silvio said.

Macky was jailed for three years and two months.

Drug dealers who supplied class A substances, including heroin, between London and Bournemouth have been jailed.

Three members of the county lines gang, including a woman from Bournemouth, were caught after a series of raids thanks to work between the Metropolitan Police and officers from Dorset Police’s BCP Neighbourhood Enforcement Teams.

Following an investigation, it was found the three defendants were involved in the supply of class A drugs between London and Bournemouth between April 24, 2022, and September 6, 2022.

Officers found several mobile phones as well as 64 wraps of cocaine and seven wraps of heroin.

Beata Par, 34 and of Bournemouth, was jailed for two and a half years for being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin, as well as possession with intent to supply.

A man who broke into a footballer’s home and stole more than £10,000 worth of possessions – including his Premier League debut match ball – has been locked up.

Serial burglar Nicholas Paul Chan, along with two accomplices, “ransacked” the penthouse home of Cherries star Philip Billing before attempting to cover their tracks by spraying washing-up liquid all over the property.

They stole Louis Vuitton sunglasses, a PlayStation 4, a Rolex watch and a Premier League match ball used in Mr Billing’s debut appearance for the Cherries in 2019.

The 37-year-old was eventually snared when his DNA was found on a face mask left behind at the scene.

Appearing before Bournemouth Crown Court, Chan pleaded guilty to four counts of burglary. The other charges related to a spate of overnight burglaries in Ringwood, Christchurch and Poole in June 2019.

Chan, who is from Liverpool and had 13 previous convictions, was jailed for five years and four months.
