THANK God it’s Friday, as the old saying goes, as the weekend is finally here and we look to relax and recharge our batteries after a busy five days.

While some of us will be waiting in anticipation to click a button on our phones when the government tries out its new emergency alert, others may want to get out and do something a bit more fun.

If you’re stuck for ideas, here are five things you could do this weekend in east Dorset:

Dorset Neon Run

Taking place on Saturday, two fun runs will be held at Poole Park in aid of disabled charity Diverse Abilities.

Runners will don neon lights during a 2k Family Fun Run (at 5pm) and a 5k route, with registration open from 7.30pm, and runners will set off by 8.30pm.

Tickets cost £15 and more information can be found at https://www.dorsetneonrun.com/

St George's Day Parade

Between 600 and 800 youngsters and adult members of the Scouts will be parading along Poole Quay, past the sculpture of Scout founder Robert Baden-Powel in honour of St. Georges Day on Sunday, April 23.

The parade will start at the lifting bridge end of The Quay from 2pm. Once the parade has reached the Lifeboat Museum there will be short ceremony.

The Foundry Arms charity event

On Sunday at 3pm, a charity event will be held at The Foundry Arms pub in Lagland Street, Poole, for veterans charity Homes for Heroes to celebrate the 13th birthday.

There will also be an official opening of the new marquee at the pub, with founders of the charity attending and cutting the ribbon.

Stand-up comedy show

Jaggers Comedy Club will be at Cameo nightclub on Saturday, from 7.30pm util 10.00pm for over 18s only.

A spokesperson for the event said: “When it comes to hilarity, we know our stuff and it shows in the acts we book for you, so for a great night out and a good laugh, make sure you check out Jaggers. “

Bournemouth Park Run

One more for the runners this weekend with a park run in King’s Park on Saturday from 9am.

The course is 5km and you just need to go to the Park Run website and create a login all free then they give you a BSR code which you show them at the end of the run then they message you your time.

Participants will meet afterwards by the finish and go for post-run coffee and snack.
