FIREFIGHTERS in Dorset have been called to a barn fire, a petrol spillage, a lake rescue, a microwave fire, and a gas incident- all in one evening.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue services responded to five incidents across the region on Saturday evening.

At 7.23pm, a crew from Redhill Park station were called to an alarm sounding at a residential property in Stoke Wood Road in Bournemouth.

On arrival, they discovered a microwave fire in a flat. Firefighters dealt with the incident by removing the microwave from the home.

At 10.03pm, the fire service responded to reports of a woman in Nea Meadows Lake in Christchurch.

Crews from Christchurch station attended, alongside a wading team and a water technical rescue team from Poole.

The female was rescued using an inflatable boat.

At 7.44pm, fire crews from Blandford and Sturminster Newton, along with a water carrier crew from Poole, were called to a barn fire in Winterborne Stickland in Blandford Forum.

The blaze was extinguished using four breathing apparatus, one main jet and two hose reel jets, and the farm machinery was used to remove the remaining debris.

At 7.28pm, firefighters were called to a property in Craigwood Drive in Ferndown following reports that gas could be smelt.

Crews from Ferndown and Springbourne attended and were able to confirm a “slight smell of gas”.

They turned off the gas and ventilated the property, before requesting the assistance of the Gas Board.

At 7.13pm, two crews from Swanage were called to Beach Road in Studland for a spillage of approximately 40-50 litres of petrol from a vehicle's split fuel tank.

Firefighters stemmed the leak and made the road safe using environment agency equipment.
